Some wedding days are filled with moments you know you’ll remember forever. Others remind you exactly why wedding photography matters so much in the first place.
Shelby and Adam’s June 6, 2026 wedding at Evansville Country Club was full of everything you hope a wedding day will be—joy, laughter, celebration, happy tears, and an incredible amount of love. But underneath all of that happiness was a quiet awareness that made the day especially emotional for their family.
Just a few days after the wedding, Adam’s dad, Mike, was told that he likely had only two weeks left to live.
While the news wasn’t completely unexpected for the family, that didn’t make it any less devastating. And as their wedding day unfolded, everyone knew they were likely experiencing something incredibly precious: the last time many of their closest family members and friends would all be together in one room.
As a wedding photographer based in Evansville, Indiana, I’ve photographed hundreds of beautiful celebrations. But this wedding was a powerful reminder that sometimes the photographs we take become so much more than wedding photos. They become family history.

From behind my camera, I could feel how deeply everyone understood the significance of the day.
There was so much happiness surrounding Shelby and Adam as they celebrated becoming husband and wife, but there were also moments when the emotion of everything happening beneath the surface became impossible to ignore.
One of those moments was a dance between Mike and his daughter, Shelby.
They knew she might never have the opportunity to share that same kind of dance with him at her own wedding someday.
So they danced.
And there wasn’t a dry eye in the room.
Including mine.
I was doing my best to stay behind the camera, but I’ll be honest—I was crying right along with everyone else.
It was one of those moments that doesn’t need to be directed or manufactured. It simply needed to be witnessed and preserved.
And that’s exactly what photography allowed me to do.

I’ve probably said this a million times, but I’ll say it again:
I would walk into a burning building to save photographs of my loved ones.
That’s how much I believe in photographs.
I’ve experienced my own share of grief and loss, and I know how desperately we sometimes want to go back. To hear someone’s voice again. To see their face. To remember the way they laughed. To hold onto the little things we didn’t realize would someday become precious.
You can’t stop time.
You can’t make someone stay.
But photographs give us the ability to remember.
They give us a tangible piece of a person, a relationship, or a moment that we can return to long after the day itself has passed.
That’s one of the reasons being a wedding photographer is such an honor to me. I’m not simply photographing a dress, a venue, flowers, or a pretty table setting.
I’m documenting people.
I’m documenting relationships.
I’m documenting the moments that may someday mean more than anyone could possibly understand on the day they’re happening.

When I learned about Mike’s prognosis shortly after the wedding, I knew immediately that I wanted to get Shelby and Adam’s gallery back to them as quickly as humanly possible.
I knew what those photographs could mean to their family.
So I did something I’d never done before: I completed their entire gallery from start to finish in just four days.
That’s a record for me.
There were plenty of very late nights involved, along with a constant stream of food and water delivered to my desk by my husband, who patiently let me work well into the night because he knew how important this was to me.
It wasn’t about meeting a deadline.
It wasn’t about getting ahead on editing.
It was about getting photographs into the hands of a family who needed them.
I would do it all over again.

Shelby and Adam trusted me to document one of the biggest days of their lives, and I don’t take that responsibility lightly.
Their wedding at Evansville Country Club was beautiful, but what I’ll remember most isn’t simply how the venue looked or how perfectly everything came together.
I’ll remember the people.
I’ll remember the laughter.
I’ll remember the tears.
I’ll remember the way everyone came together to celebrate Shelby and Adam while quietly holding space for the reality their family was facing.
I’ll remember Mike dancing with his daughter.
And I’ll remember just how lucky I felt to have a front-row seat to something so meaningful.
This is why I love being a wedding photographer in Evansville, Indiana.
Because wedding photography isn’t ultimately about creating a perfect collection of pretty images.
It’s about preserving the people and moments that matter most.

Adam and Shelby, thank you for trusting me with something so incredibly important.
It was an honor to document your wedding day—the joyful moments, the hilarious moments, the emotional moments, and everything in between.
I’m so grateful I got to create these memories for you and your family.
And Mike, I hope these photographs serve as a reminder of just how loved you were and how much you meant to the people around you.
You built quite a legacy here.
Rest easy, Mike. 🤍
